If a tornado warning is issued

  • Get to the lowest floor, in an interior room — bathroom, closet, or hallway. Put as many walls between you and outside as you can.
  • Stay away from windows. Cover your head and neck.
  • In a mobile home or vehicle: leave for a sturdy building before the storm arrives. Neither is safe in a tornado.
  • Charge your phone now. Keep shoes and a flashlight where you shelter.
  • After it passes, watch for downed lines and gas smells; don't sightsee — crews need the roads.
